Titans Looking to Sign Matt Hasselbeck?

With luck, the NFL lockout will end any day now, and as soon as it does, many people are expecting the quarterback carousel to start turning. With pending free agents and likely trade candidates all out there on the market, many teams are expected to be eager to make a deal.

One question mark is in Seattle and what will happen with incumbent starter Matt Hasselbeck, who is scheduled to be a free agent when the lockout ends. Although Seattle head coach Pete Carroll has officially said that re-signing Haselbeck is big priority for the team, other teams may be interested enough to make that difficult. According to Jim Wyatt of The Tennessean, via Sporting News’ Alisha Hord and Vinnie Iyer, one such interested team might be the Tennesse Titans. On a podcast with Hord and Iyer, Wyatt was quoted as saying:

Keep Matt Hasselbeck on the radar.

I think [the Titans will] make a run at Hasselbeck first just to see his interest and just to see what’s going to shake out there in Seattle. If his future with the Seahawks continues. If they can make that work, that could happen.

With the drafting of Jake Locker, the Titans have all but called it quits on the Vince Young era in Tennessee and could use a veteran to take the reins while Locker gets acclimated. The logical in-house choice for that role would by Kerry Collins, as Wyatt points out, but there is some question as to whether Collins will choose to retire.
